Email marketing is something that business can do to improve, whether small or large. Many people mistakenly believe that email marketing is an extinct form of advertising. This is incorrect. Though it is true that people will not read every promotional email that is sent to them, if it’s done right, you can get them to open yours.

If you are not familiar with email marketing, then you should hire a professional to help you. It is always best to hire a professional for assistance with your first email marketing campaign. Maybe after you have hired someone for the first campaign, you can handle further campaigns on your own. Even if you have a professional handle your email marketing campaign, you should still take the time to read a book on the subject, so you understand how the process should be working on your behalf. You want to understand how the process works, and what you should expect from any professional that you hire.

You should have a clear budget for your email marketing campaign. Don’t expect to get results for cheap or free. You have to treat your email marketing like any other form of advertising campaign (i.e. direct mail, television, or radio). You want your emails to look professional; and you want your emails to reach the types of paying customers that your offer will appeal to.

Be careful about hiring inexperienced freelancers to handle your bulk email marketing campaigns. There are a lot of people that have no experience that are willing to handle your email marketing campaign. These people will usually charge you very little money; but when you encounter people like this, just keep going. They don’t have good email lists, and they don’t have the experience to market your business effectively.

Also, understand that it’s a numbers game. You may have to send out hundreds of thousands of emails to get a favorable result. You might have to send out 100,000 emails before you make one sale. This means you can’t expect overnight results from an email marketing campaign; so be realistic.

In preparation for your campaign, make sure that your business can handle a favorable response. If you wind up making a lot of sales through your email marketing, make sure that your website can handle a rush of attention. Make sure that your staff can provide customer service in case there is an onslaught of new customers. In addition, only work with a company that can show you proof of results that they have gotten for other clients. If a company cannot prove their efficiency and accomplishment, select another company.

Email marketing, sometimes also called web marketing or E-Marketing, is the method of marketing products or services through the internet using electronic mail. It is one of the most advanced and effective marketing technique presently available.

There are lots of advantages to email marketing over conventional marketing techniques. The Internet has acquired such popularity among the public, and has become the most widely used communication medium all over the world. Emails can include links to websites, and people like the ease of use of online shopping sites. Also they get the lowest price through internet shopping. The widespread use of credit cards and internet banking facilities affords more convenience and speed in the online shopping field.

A major form of email marketing is email advertisement. Advertisements can be monitored and payment can be obtained when the customer clicks the ad or according to the number of times the advertisement is played. It gives more flexibility to the advertisers to choose which of the methods are more suitable and appealing to their customers.

The reduction in cost of marketing is another major advantage of email marketing. Since the medium uses digital format, it can avoid the printing and publishing costs associated with traditional marketing. So the Internet can be termed as a selling tool which is cost effective.

The filtering process can be done in a very effective way as the advertisement can be routed to the appropriate customers. All types of customers are available over the Internet irrespective of age, occupation, living standards, etc. which gives widespread publicity for the advertisements.

Another advantage of routing email readers to your E-Store is that it can be open for 24 hours a day and 7 days a week which is not possible in the case of conventional marketing methods. This gives freedom of time for the customer for purchasing. The different types of internet marketing include email subscriptions, blogs, feeds etc. The cost of this kind of marketing is nothing. Through these kinds of marketing methods, up-to-date information can be given to the customers.

The statistics of marketing can also be measured easily and conveniently, and necessary steps for evaluation can be done efficiently. Email marketing can be monitored, and tested in all aspects. In Email marketing a person even do not have to own a product to sell it. There are lots of affiliate programs available in the internet. They work on the basis of pay per click, pay per purchase etc. Thus internet marketing is a new phase of modern marketing technique, and email marketing is one of its most powerful tools.

Email mailing list – understanding email marketing. Do you understand email marketing? If you do not, you do not have to worry just yet. This is because the concept of email marketing is relatively new and many business owners have not started to take advantage of this wonderful marketing tool yet.

However, there are some savvy business owners who are already employing email marketing techniques to create additional business for themselves and to gain an advantage over the competition. While not having a great deal of knowledge about email marketing is not an immediate threat to your business, you should start learning about this concept to ensure it does not become a problem for you later as more and more business owners in your niche begin to take advantage of the concept of email marketing. This article will provide information on email marketing which should be useful to business owners who do not have experience with the subject matter.

Business owners should first understand the options available to them in terms of email marketing. The most common options include sending out mass emails with promotional materials, publishing and distributing e-newsletters and offering correspondence courses via email. The advantage to all of these marketing strategies is the ability to reach a worldwide audience. Unlike traditional methods of marketing such as television and radio ads or print media ads which only reach an audience in a limited area anyone with access to the Internet can benefit from your email marketing techniques.

Mass emails are the most popular form of email marketing. This includes emails which are sent to hundreds, thousands or even millions of recipients at once. The problem with this type of marketing is the potential for having your emails viewed as spam. This is likely to occur if you send your emails to recipients who have no interest in your products or services and have not expressed interest in receiving emails from you.

E-newsletters are also becoming increasingly popular as a form of email marketing. E-newsletters can be a simple or as complex as you prefer and may include text, graphics, advertisements, links or any combination of these elements. One of the first decisions you will have to make is whether you wish to make your e-newsletter strictly text or include graphics in the e-newsletter. If you are on a tight budget, it may be worthwhile to only include text to avoid the need to hire a graphic artist. You may be able to incorporate graphics yourself but they won’t look nearly as professional as the graphics provided by a professional. Likewise you can certainly write your own copy for your e-newsletter but you will likely create a much better impression if you hire a qualified professional writer to create the content for you instead.

Hiring a professional graphic artist and a professional writer may seem like an extraneous expense but it is actually quite important. Your e-newsletter may be the first impression many potential customers get of you and your work so it is important to make sure everything is of the highest quality.

Correspondence courses offered via email is the final email marketing strategy we will discuss. These courses may be either offered for a fee and turn into a source of income themselves or they may be made available for free. The theory behind offering these courses for free is they often contain subtle advertising urging visitors to invest in the products and services offered by your business. Whether you charge for your email correspondences courses or offer them for free, care should be taken to ensure the information contained in these courses is completely accurate. This is critical because potential customers who receive these email courses will be judging your business based on the quality and accuracy of these email courses. If they are filled with errors the potential customer may doubt the quality of your work and seek out the products and services offered by others including your direct competitors.

It’s an emerging debate that looks set to become more widespread in the future – which direct marketing method is most effective: traditional direct mail campaigns, or new generation email marketing?

Direct mail is sent to businesses and consumers every day and is used by a very wide range of organisations and industries. A mailing in the post, often accompanied by a letter, has become a proven and accepted way of targeting your audience, with consistent conversion rates of about 1-5%. However in recent years direct mail has attracted criticism over the environmental impact it can have, and the annoyance caused by misdirected mailings.

Email marketing using opt in data is less widely used at the moment, but is growing more rapidly in popularity than almost any other direct marketing tool. A growing range of good quality opt in, and in some cases double opt in lists are becoming available, as are a wide range of email broadcast services. But this new marketing medium has already been tainted by abuse and association with the practice of spamming or junk mailing.

So what are the relative merits of each of these contrasting direct marketing methods?

The Benefits of Email Marketing

Email marketing is direct marketing at its most impactful. Your message lands directly in the inbox of your recipient, your message can be personalised, and even targeted to individual recipients.
Email marketing can be timed not just to the day, but to the hour and minute, in order to reach consumers just when they are likely to make a buying decision. Email marketing can also be tracked in detail, even to the amount of people who open and read your email, or who forward it to a friend.
Because it is solely a digital medium, email marketing is more environmentally friendly, and has a far lower carbon footprint than other marketing methods.
Email marketing can be very cost effective as it does not need costly mailing houses, production, postage and so on. However data costs can be higher that traditional list rental for direct mail, and email campaigns also require the use of a broadcasting partner.
Email marketing is highly effective in growing online sales for e-commerce sites – in just a few clicks the recipient can act on impulse and buy from your site. It can also be used to drive traffic to b2b sites that aim to collect leads and enquiries.

The Benefits of Direct Mail
Direct mailshots are a tangible and physical representative of your brand, which can be held in the recipient’s hands. A mailer with high production values can say much about your brand, just through its size, feel and texture.
Direct mail is well established and proven as a marketing tool. Consumers and businesses are used to sending and receiving marketing messages in the post, and are receptive to the messages they convey.
Direct mail can also be used to increase your online sales from your website – increasing numbers of mail order companies are finding that their offline catalogues sent in the post are becoming increasingly effective at driving consumers online to order, instead of by mail or phone.
Quality direct mail data is generally more affordable and more widespread, and does not come with fixed broadcast costs and fewer issues over the opt in procedure. The direct mail industry is also far more mature with a wider range of lists and suppliers available.
Direct mail does not have to fight its way through complex spam and junk mail filters used in many email programs.

One fact is universal – any direct marketing campaign using direct mail, email marketing, or for that matter telemarketing, needs great quality data that is accurate and well targeted.

When writing your email copy throw everything you learned in English 101 out the window.

1. Personalize

There’s nothing better for a person to see their name. Use personalization in the subject line and inside the body of the email (but don’t overdo it so it looks hokey).

2. Write just like you talk

Use plain, easy to understand English. Nobody cares if you can use xenophobia and ostentatious in a sentence. Write almost like you’re talking to a buddy over a beer. So that means use contractions. Be friendly and personable in your writing.

3. Write to one person

Try to think of the ideal prospect as you are writing and make the message just for them. Even if your web site will be read by thousands of people each day — every person will read it one at a time. Use “you” and “your” liberally. Focus on them, not yourself.

4. Keep your sentences and paragraphs short

Keep your sentences and paragraphs short and simple. Period. Sentences (and even paragraphs) can even be one word like that last one. And paragraphs should be no more than 4 or 5 lines. You want your email to look easy to read with a lot of white space. Make it inviting. Long blocks of words are scary. Paragraph breaks do not need to be determined by content.

5. Eliminate excess wording

Simplify. Convey your message in a clear and concise manner — but remember that doesn’t mean keep it short. You need to ruthlessly edit your email for flow.

6. Use plenty of compelling subheads

Subheads should be like mini-headlines. Use them to break up large bodies of text and to bring people back into the body of the letter. A lot of people will scan your email so you need to make you subheads give a complete selling message by themselves. Also, be sure to use different graphic embellishments.

7. Put passion into your email

Since you won’t have the luxury of seeing your prospect eye-to-eye to gauge their reactions you need to put extra passion into your message. Even if you think you are overdoing it when you write, your letter will end understated when it gets read. Get enthusiastic!

8. Use action verbs whenever possible

If you see too many “as”, “is”, “was” or “were” replace them. Sentences using action verbs are more powerful.

Hands down, the most important and best way to build your online business is through creating a list of subscribers with email. It sounds very elementary, but this is one of the easiest ways internet marketers can gain their share of the market. I am assuming that you have an auto responder or are planning on using one with your marketing campaign.

Why is building a list so important? A targeted mailing list is the center of your business because it allows you to follow up with potential and existing customers. It doesn’t matter how much money you put into advertising and promotion, if you let your prospects leave your site without getting their contact information, then you are throwing advertising dollars away. You might have heard this before also – it usually takes seven to twelve exposures to a message or product before a prospect will decide to make a purchase. You just cannot allow prospects to get away from your sales message if you want to make an income.

So the way to go about this is by building an “opt-in” and “thank you” web page so that you can not only get your prospects information but also pre sell to them as many times as needed. An “opt-in” landing page or a “squeeze page” as it is also called, is a simple website that is designed to gather your prospects information so that they are subscribed into your “opt-in” email list.

There are 2 reasons why you should use an “opt-in” landing page:

To capture the most amount of prospects into your sales funnel and turn them into hungry, ready to buy subscribers.

To pre qualify your prospects before giving them your sales information, and before letting them see your affiliate link to the merchant’s sales page if you are affiliate marketing.

Email “opt-in” lists are excellent sales generators. It is far more effective to get your prospect onto your “opt-in” list and follow up with them, than it is to try to convert them on the front page of your web site.

The “rule of thumb” for this technique is “the simpler, the better”. What you need is a headline and sub headlines which draw attention the product you are offering. You need a subscription form along with some legal disclaimers and privacy statements. And then you need your name. That’s it! You can check out my opt-in page to see an example at the end of this article by clicking on the url in my “bio” or signature area.

The second part to the “opt-in” landing page is the “thank you” page. This is the page that your subscriber will see after “opting-in” to your list when they enter their name and email address. What will happen is that when your prospect “opts-in” on your web site, they will be redirected to a “thank you” page and receive an email from your auto responder.

You are going to want to keep the page clean and simple. This page is what solidifies your new relationship with your prospect and builds rapport. Rapport is essential to building a responsive email list and you want to start the process right away. You need to include a “Thank You” headline, along with transparency which would be a picture of yourself. Your language should also be personalized and warming to the prospect. Then provide what you promised such as a link to the product that you are selling along with any bonuses that you offered on the “opt-in” page.

This is just a simple overview of how an “opt-in” system works. It is the most effective way of marketing on the internet. I hope that this gives you a good starting point in understanding just how powerful email marketing really is. If you are not using this type of system, I encourage you to do more research on this subject. I wish you great success!

When you are sending out your next email campaign you should take a moment to review how you are using links in your email message. Remember when we are talking about links we mean the text links and not images or buttons within your email content.

Here are some useful tips to use in your next newsletter or announcement:

Links should be obvious and clearly marked meaning they should follow standard colors so they stand out from the actual content. This way you make sure if readers are just scanning they will see them.

Try to avoid the “click here” variety so links can be more relative. Example: Do you need help marketing? links to: http://www.needhelpmarketing.com
Using this technique will definitely lead to more clickthroughs, because you are asking the question and then linking directly to the answer this way.

Link to your website or blog content to promote different websites and different resources you may have available. Sometimes your website and blog will be on two different websites. Such as www.companyname.com and blog.companyname.com If you want to promote these resources you can cross link them. For example within your email newsletter you could list Top Articles or Most read articles X,Y, and Z.

Anaylze which Content or Links were most Popular to better understand your readers and their interests. In fact you might be able to get a lot of feedback from this exercise and determine which information is more valuable. Whether that be product information, company press releases and announcements or even industry news. When armed with this information you can create better and more read content on your next email message.

Permanent links add consistency for your standard contact us, unsubscribe link, share with your network, contact us on twitter. etc. Make sure they are always located in the same place in each of your emails to make them easier to find.

Some readers will be reading on their mobile phone – with more cell phones being able to read email messages this practice is becoming far more popular. So try not to use too many links but also try to add text for those reading the email with no images. You could include teasers to provide an intro to the content you are linking to. Example: “Top Brands recently revealed their marketing secrets” and then provide a link.

Links can be shared with others by either referencing your email message by forwarding it to someone else. Or perhaps the online version of your newsletter will be shared on Twitter or Facebook with others. Also if another website copies your material you will also see back links (links back to your site) to your website from theirs if you include embedded links so it can have its advantages for generating more click traffic. Ultimately leading to more website visitors on your site.

Viral marketing has an array of possibilities and ways to achieve your overall goals. However, just like everything else, preplanning and the right setup to create success are the things you will need to make it work for you and your e-business.

The first thing you want to be sure of is not to get over-zealous. The one thing you need to avoid at all costs is spamming. Spamming is still used widely, but with the government establishing more restrictions and fines you don’t want this to be a problem for you. The professional image of your business will also suffer if you send mail blatantly.

Spamming requires a database that contains a huge list of e-mail addresses set up so that the message can be delivered with one click. The problem with it (aside from the governmental restrictions and associated fines) is that it irritates the recipients and kills the validity of your campaign, which in turn kills the factors that would motivate someone to refer your site.

You need to personalize by creating your website with personal appeal. You must see to it that your website makes your customers feel safe, secure and cared for. E-mail is important, because it is going to be one of the most affordable ways to keep in touch with your customers.

The proper way to handle email permission is to first let your customer know that you will not share their e-mail addresses to third party companies. The next thing to do is to attach the need for their e-mail addresses to benefits they can receive.

For example: Coupons or discounts that are only available to members who receive e-mail notifications. With each e-mail you send the viral marketing effect takes place.

Ezine Advertising is one of the most powerful ways to market and promote your other products and or services. There are literally thousands of electronic newsletters on the Internet with millions of people who subscribe to them. Placing ads in online newsletters is an inexpensive way to reach your target market quickly — especially when you compare it with other forms of advertising.

In 2002, ezine publishing took a quantum leap, as its status evolved from “amateur’s hobby” into becoming the most powerful marketing tool for business online. Email newsletters have come of age, and increasingly, more ezines will take this route, as subscribers prefer them to drab, lack-luster text-only ezines. In the coming year we’ll see more ezines published.

There are tens of thousands of Ezines being published every month, with a collective audience of millions. And the editors of most of those Ezines are all looking for quality content for their newsletters.

If you master this technique of making the Ezine viral you can get your name and your website URL in front of 100,000 or even a million readers.

6 Web Marketing Tips for making the ezine viral:

• Pick a topic that you know something about and then go to the Search Engines and find as many websites as you can that deal with that subject.

• As well as collecting information for your article, make a note of any URLs that offer free resources dealing with the topic of your article. Include those URLs in your article.

• You should choose a topic very carefully. Once the topic is selected, doing enough research on the subject is vital. Organize the material and write in an interesting style. Make sure that you provide links to free resources.

• The content in your Ezine should not be pure sales copy. There has to be valuable and genuine information. Promotion of your product or service should be subtle. Viral marketing using Ezine is different than running an E Mail marketing campaign that blasts millions of mail messages to unsuspecting readers.

• At the end of your article, attach a 5 or 6-line ‘Resource Box’ that includes your website URL and/or your email address.

• When you have finished your article, do NOT send it off straight away. Let it lie fallow for 2 or 3 days and then come back and read it again. You’ll be amazed at the improvements you can make. Those final improvements are what make the difference between an article that gets published and one that doesn’t.

Effective communication is crucial to connect to your audience, which is why email marketing plays such a vital role in any online marketing strategy. One of the best ways to create top quality emails or newsletters is to use a mass email solution that gives you maximum control and flexibility over your newsletter as well as your mailing lists to ensure optimal delivery and results.

Newsletters remain one of the best marketing tools to connect to your audience and keep them updated on your company’s news, promotions, new offers, new products or any other information that needs promoting. Newsletters also offer a chance to strengthen brand awareness, and used correctly, e-marketing can be a hugely powerful marketing tool that can help maintain and even grow conversion. In the past, newsletters would have to be sent through Outlook, and took a long time to create, and even longer to send ? often with many emails returned due to mistyped addresses or too many emails sent at once. These days there are a number of email solutions available that allow you to send unlimited newsletters to your subscribers through an easy-to-use interface. Newsletters take half the time, and delivery rates are better than ever before. Using an inferior email system could undo all the hard work you put into your email campaigns; however with returned emails or worse, non deliveries, how do you ensure that your newsletters are a success and what can you do to get your emails read? Here are some top tips for effective e-marketing:

? Use the best possible email software to send your emails

A good quality e-marketing system will allow you to deliver bulk email to your opt-in subscriber database, and will enable you to customise email templates easily, with straightforward integration tools for your website and solid reporting to track delivery and click-through results. Subscribers should easily be able to sign up for your newsletters from your website, taking out the legwork of developing your database manually.

? Design your own email template

Bulk emails offer an opportunity to strengthen your corporate identity, which is why branding and customisation is so important. Adding logos and familiar company branding will create brand recognition, enabling your clients to identify your company quickly and easily. Customised templates also ensure that newsletters are eye-catching and well-designed, which increases readability and click throughs as readers will be more interested to peruse the newsletters.

? Regular and consistent newsletters

You could choose to send bulk email weekly, monthly or quarterly, however it is important to ensure that newsletters are sent consistently and regularly. Sending your newsletter on the same day each week or month ensures that your readers’ expectations are met, and also gives a professional approach. Sending your newsletters on designated days will also make it easier to manage and produce, as emails are scheduled to allow for sufficient time.

? Promote your newsletter properly

Newsletter subscription boxes should be displayed clearly and prominently on your website to ensure that customers can easily sign up to your newsletter. These forms should also be easy to complete, with as few steps as possible ? a name and email address is the easiest and simplest information to enter, and also offers the most privacy.

? Opt-in and opt-out subscriptions are essential

Opt-in newsletters should be the only type of mass email you send, otherwise your emails are considered spam and not only will they be blocked by spam filters, but you also stand the risk of alienating your customers, which can be deadly to your business. Give your subscribers an easy way to opt-in or opt-out of your newsletter at any time, without having to go through a complicated process. This ensures ethical and responsible marketing, giving a better overall success to your email marketing efforts.
