Viral marketing has an array of possibilities and ways to achieve your overall goals. However, just like everything else, preplanning and the right setup to create success are the things you will need to make it work for you and your e-business.

The first thing you want to be sure of is not to get over-zealous. The one thing you need to avoid at all costs is spamming. Spamming is still used widely, but with the government establishing more restrictions and fines you don’t want this to be a problem for you. The professional image of your business will also suffer if you send mail blatantly.

Spamming requires a database that contains a huge list of e-mail addresses set up so that the message can be delivered with one click. The problem with it (aside from the governmental restrictions and associated fines) is that it irritates the recipients and kills the validity of your campaign, which in turn kills the factors that would motivate someone to refer your site.

In order for any online business to reach a level of success, visibility is an absolute must. Without visibility potential clients and associates have no way of knowing that your website exists or that it offers them what they are looking for. One of the most popular ways of gaining a steady stream of traffic that is ready and willing with a credit card in hand is the use of Overture or Yahoo. Yahoo now owns Overture, and thus these two are often referred to as the same thing. For purposes of clarity, I will refer to the system as Overture throughout the article.

Advertising on the internet can be a highly confusing endeavor. There are so many options many small entrepreneurs become terrified of blowing their advertising budget on something ineffective or something with little to no visibility. No visibility means no clientele and certainly no credit cards waiting in the wings. In an effort to present an almost fair playing ground as well as profit themselves, Overture came to be with a highly successful Pay for Performance (P4P) program.

Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone who visited your website then went and brought two or three other people to your site just to show them how awesome it is? If you had just five happy clients who brought back 2 friends a piece, you would you watch your business grow by 150% in just that day. Imagine if everyone did that. Your website would be one of the fastest growing sites on the internet today. Of course, you’re thinking, that would be nice but it just doesn’t work that way. Perhaps not everyone will bring a friend or two along. But are you even giving them the option?

You want to make sure that you are using every available resource to help your website grow and attract more people. Using something known as the “Tell a Friend” script can help bring an increased amount of targeted traffic to your website.

it seems that a lot of big companies today (with big marketing budgets) have managed to jump right into social marketing and successfully use sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in their everyday marketing activities. However, it also seems that small businesses are lagging behind the social marketing trend, even though it is a very low cost marketing channel that almost any small business can afford (the sites are free to use; all it typically costs is time!).

So why are so many small businesses hesitant about social marketing, or seemingly scared of using social networking sites as part of their regular marketing activities?

It could be as simple as not having the time to take on a new marketing activity, or maybe a lack of familiarity with sites like Facebook and Twitter makes them seem hard to use. It’s also possible they’re concerned about negative comments showing up on social media web sites, or worried about employees using these tools appropriately for business. Whatever the reasons, social media marketing is here to stay, and small businesses are going to have to face their fears if they hope to leverage its value as a marketing tool and stay relevant with their customers today.

People think that you must be a business guru to make an impact in the business world today, but this is not true. I came to discover that the best business ideas are usually very simple, mainly because they are easily understood. Genghis Khan was right when he quoted, “I turn to simplicity and again I turn to purity.”

Yahoo and Google are some of the most popular search engines, generating huge traffic and this I believe is due to their simplicity. These brands have remained relevant to many internet surfers, online business owners and internet marketing companies over the years.

Did you know that there are actually 2 kinds of viral marketing techniques used today? Hot mail and You tube can be categorized as a classic example. The more people use it, the more people see it. The first kind of viral marketing is the product itself and it should improve as soon as more people start using it.The second kind of viral marketing is one that has evolved in recent years. It involves an internet marketing campaign which spreads but it isn’t the product itself. It uses other media such as videos and re brandable e books in order to promote a website or service.

Instead, the service they provide speaks for itself. The more people use the site, the more people will know about them. The more people know about them, the more people will use them. In this first kind of viral marketing, it is important that these sites improve their service if they wish to retain the customer base they have developed.
