So many cultures have a belief in past lives it is difficult to casually dismiss the concept. Children have spoken of experiences they could not possibly have had in this time period and many people under hypnosis have given remarkably detailed descriptions of places that no longer exist. Is this a sign of mass hysteria or perhaps confirmation of reincarnation?
In the East, the cradle of civilization, just about every religious philosophy believes unequivocally in past lives. Whether it is the concept of Hindu Karma, Buddhists Samsara or Jewish Gilgul, the idea that our soul outlives the body is nearly universal. The idea that the soul is eternal is even accepted in the Western Christian philosophy, it is the rebirth of the soul that is rejected, and Muslims, barring the Sufis, deny it as well.
