The importance of Social Media Optimization has increased over the past few years. If you take a look at sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter you will see that all of these sites seemed uncertain of at first, but now they have surpassed many expectations.
Large to small businesses have began to make use of social networking sites in order to create a buzz in the market. Using social media as a marketing tool requires a more dedication than some of the traditional methods. Viral Marketing is defined as the process of marketing materials and information via social networking.
This type of marketing uses pre-existing social networks to increase brand awareness by encouraging people to pass along a promotional message. It is an effective way of using word-of-mouth to achieve success. Continue reading ‘What is Viral Marketing?’ »

To tweet or not to tweet, that is the question.
There’s no denying that Twitter is a social networking phenomenon. Let’s face it; once Oprah got on the Twitter train in April this year (2009), you knew it was probably something you should check out. Despite the fact that it was originally meant to help teens keep track of each other, it has grown up considerably over the past year. In fact, the vast majority of the network’s users are adults, not kids. Only 11% of Twitter’s users are between the ages of 11 and 17. Twitter has become much more than just another way to find out if your friend is at the coffee shop or if Ashton Kutcher is vacationing in the Caribbean. Talk to a teen, and they’ll probably tell you that Twitter is lame; they’d much rather go on Facebook to have longer chats, exchange photos, and play games.

Part of the beauty of Twitter is that it can be many things to many people. As part of my effort to recruit as many people to Twitter as possible, I decided that I should write posts about how Twitter can be used in different situations. For example, of course you can just use Twitter to make plans with your friends, but the interactivity of Twitter can be very useful for people in all sorts of different professions. I’m going to attempt to come up with as many different uses for it as I can and I’m going to start with the one I feel (for better or worse) qualified the most to talk about: using Twitter to promote your band or music.
Your Fans Really Do Care What You’re Doing
Believe it or not, if you’ve been making music for a while, you’ve probably accumulated a not-insignificant group of fans who are interested in what you do on a daily basis. These are the fans that download all your songs (whether you want them to or not), go to all your shows and buy all your t-shirts. Every band has these, no matter how long you’ve been around or how bad your music is. These are the people that you can cater to with Twitter.

1. Post updates about your event website/online registration
When you set up a Twitter account for your event, make sure to enter your event website into the URL section. Your website will be visible on your profile at all times. Keep your followers updated about changes, for example when you have added your event agenda to your website, or when the dates and times of tasks are due. Include relevant links (event website or online registration page) every time, so your followers can easily read and find such information
2. Offer special deals
A good way to create noise and buzz about your event
3. Ask for feedback and ideas from followers
Delegates appreciate knowing they have contributed to an event so they get the most benefit from paying to attend. Twitter is a great way to do this. You can also poll for answers to get feedback to help shape content

Twitter has emerged as one of the most powerful social networking tools. Twitter is the home for many hip hop artists around the word. Even though Twitter is fairly new, there are already hip hop artists such as Sean ‘diddy’ Combs who had success with marketing on twitter. However, there as also been quite a few people who have made some mistakes when it comes to branding themselves on twitter.
I have compiled a list of the 10 most frequent mistakes hip hop artists make while using twitter:
- Adding too many people at one time. So you want to brand yourself, yet you’ve got 50 people following you, while you’re following 2,001? How does that really portray you? If not only makes you look extremely desperate but it also shows that you’re not on twitter to build relationships with people, only to gain a vast amount of followers in order to spam them with your links. Take it slow, let the follows come naturally.

Although Twitter continues to gain acceptance in the business community as a business communication and marketing tool, I’m still amazed at the number of small businesses that don’t see the value of using this micro-blogging service as a marketing tool for business.
Just in case you need a refresher, Twitter (www.twitter.com) is a unique micro-blogging tool that lets users communicate with their “followers†in quick text messages of 140 characters or less called “tweets.â€

Maybe you haven’t been told this but traffic doesn’t simply come to your site after you have built it. You have to direct traffic to it. There’s hundreds of ways of doing this and the more ways you use the better.
New Internet Marketers are unfortunately left out in the cold when it comes to traffic generation. Gurus inform Newbies what to do but many times, don’t inform them of the HOW, WHEN or WHERE. Sometimes, I hate to say, that is on purpose. Personally, I cannot see the sense in it as there is plenty of Internet out there to go around!

it seems that a lot of big companies today (with big marketing budgets) have managed to jump right into social marketing and successfully use sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in their everyday marketing activities. However, it also seems that small businesses are lagging behind the social marketing trend, even though it is a very low cost marketing channel that almost any small business can afford (the sites are free to use; all it typically costs is time!).
So why are so many small businesses hesitant about social marketing, or seemingly scared of using social networking sites as part of their regular marketing activities?
It could be as simple as not having the time to take on a new marketing activity, or maybe a lack of familiarity with sites like Facebook and Twitter makes them seem hard to use. It’s also possible they’re concerned about negative comments showing up on social media web sites, or worried about employees using these tools appropriately for business. Whatever the reasons, social media marketing is here to stay, and small businesses are going to have to face their fears if they hope to leverage its value as a marketing tool and stay relevant with their customers today.

Do you belong to any social networks? If you do than you already know that these sites can be a lot of fun. Not only will it allow you to catch up with some old friends from school, but you can meet all sorts of people.
Social networking is a big thing to many people. It allows them to advertise their web sites and makes sales. But it’s also just nice to be in touch with people who sometimes you have a lot in common with.
Not everyone that you meet on these social networks is going to be nice though. You will run into a few odd people here and there. But there are ways that you can avoid talking to these people. So don’t worry if you find that you have a stalker on a social network. You can end that very quickly.
